How To Watermark An Image In Photoshop
………
- Open your image in Photoshop.
- Select: Windows > Layers to open up your layers pallet.)
- Double click on layer to rename (I named my layer painting)
- Select: Layers > Duplicate Layer (if you need to alter the original image at all)
- Select the type tool and type the copyright text. Make sure your text layer is above the other layers.
- Select the text and adjust the size and colour to suit.
- You can use the colour picker to select a suitable colour
- While your text layer is still selected, select: Layer > Layer Style > Drop ShadowChange the default setting to 100% opacity and click OK. (see settings)
- Place your text where you want it to be and shrink the view of your image to simulate the screen size. Adjust the percentage of transparency to 75% (or what ever suits your image) Make sure you save the PSD at this stage so you have a high resolution large image for later use.
- Now we will reduce the image to the size required on your web site. I will reduce this one to 450 pixels. To do this select: Image > Image Size and type in 450 pixels.Make sure the box marked Constrain Proportions is checked so it doesn’t distort the image. Click OK
- Go to the menu and select: File > Save For Web Devices.
- Select JPG and set the quality at 80% (personal choice.) You can see the size of the file on the bottom left and this will adjust depending on the quality. If you need a smaller file then reduce the quality of the jpg. Select Save and brows to the folder you wish to save the image. Name the image leaving no gaps in the name and select Save. Now you have a large layered file that can be edited at any time and a flattened watermarked image for the web.

- You can delete the first background layer if you with by dragging the layer down over the delete bin icon.
